Google has just launched Android Market. It has around 50 applications for mobiles that can be purchased and downloaded by the users of the Google G1 handset. Also the market has been opened to developers by Google who can submit applications developed by them to be included in the list.

For this Google requires developers to pay a fixed registration fee prior to the submission of their applications. But no fee for transactions will be charged for applications. Meanwhile, HTC who manufactured G1 expects to sell more than 60,000 handsets by the end of 2008.

That may sound small in comparison to the 10 million iPhones shipped officially by Apple, but Android aims to be the operating system for many devices. Attractive data plans and a decent amount of sales will convince the carriers and manufacturers to get devices powered by Android in the market and this will lead in making the platform to become popular amongst the developers.

The vision for Android is to be the mobile operating system for many devices. Decent sales for G1 and its data plans will go a long way in convincing other manufacturers and carriers to bring Android-powered devices to market, which would in turn make the platform far more attractive to developers.
