AOL Acquires Goowy Widget Creator
AOL has been partners with widget making company Goowy since last year. Now they have bought the company. The financial details of the deal has not been disclosed. Goowy is specially known as the parent company of yourminis, which is a widget maker and widget search engine. They company, based in San Diego was set up in 2004. In 2006 it got good funds from rich blogger and owner of Dallas Mavericks - Mark Cuban. Both the companies had worked together before on widgets for the custom start page of AOL. Goowy will be joining AOL’s Products division.
AOL believes that widgets are the hottest topic for 2008. The news is that yourminis widget technology will be developed into AOL’s Platform A ad network. Alex Bard, CEO and co-founder of Goowy believes that the platform and services that are built by them snugly fit in AOL’s ad-supported Web strategy. Goowy expects to expand the widget offerings all across the AOL network. It is a known fact that with competitors like Clearspring, Widgetbox and Slide, the widget space is really getting cluttered. But Bard believes, that AOL will help them emerge as a leader. Thus the acquisition is a win-win situation.
