Bebo launches Open application platform
Going the Facebook way, Bebo the largest social networking site in UK has launched a open technology platform for third party developers. This will enable third party developers to create engaging applications easily for Bebo users. Moreover these applications will also be compatible with open platforms of other social networking websites..
Bebo has partnered some of the prominent application developers to give this initiate the initial thrust. The open source applications are new growth drivers for social networking websites as there is a keen advertiser interest in using these as an effective channel to communicate with site users. Internet giant, Gioogle too recently launched an open platform called OpenSocial.
Bebo and MySpace too have joined Google’s Open Social Platform, basically most large social networking websites are trying to enable a seamless cross site open platform so applications work on multiple sites. Social Networking applications are surely buzzing and it will be interesting to monitor its developments and whether it emerges as a serious advertising channel.
