Everyclick.com, UK based Search Engine raises money for Charity
A new search engine based in UK, called Everyclick.com, raises money for charity, each time a user conducts a query or search on its website. Everyclick.com hopes to triple its earnings for the year 2008, due to the expansion in US and new links with big firms.
Everyclick operates in the same way as Yahoo! And Google, except that, each time a user conducts a search or query, Everyclick.com pays 50p to a charity of the user’s choice. The main revenue generator is Everyclick.com ’s advertisers. Website users have a list of charities they can select from, approximately 170,000. It has managed to raise so far, approximately, 369,127 pounds from its 85,268 web users.
Chief executive of the site Polly Gowers states that “this is a free lunch because it doesn’t cost anyone anything. You search the web and it generates money.”
It’s been hard work for Ms Gowers and her team to make this a successful search engine, especially in a market been dominated by many multi-national companies. Hitwise has produced data showing that Everyclick.com is ranked 8th in the UK and 18th globally, as a popular search engine.
