Google’s project to seek world changing ideas, a huge hit
A call worth several million pounds by Google for beneficial, world changing ideas has generated well over 150,000 online submissions. Google will start going through the ideas carefully. These have been given in 25 languages.
Bethany Poole, Google’s product marketing manager said:
“We are very impressed by the variety as well as ingenuity of the submissions made across all categories - ranging from health to energy, environment and education.”
Google came up with this vast project to mark its 10th birthday celebrations. Over the past month or so, the Google project’s website attracted over 2.5 million unique visitors. Its video was seen over one million times. Entrants were to describe their idea briefly and answer questions like, “Who would benefit the most and how if your idea were to become a reality?”
Now comes the tough part – selecting the truly world changing ideas! Google will select 100 of them in January 2009. Top five ideas as part of the project 10^100 will be announced in May. Over 3,000 employees from more than 50 Google offices worldwide will whittle down the list with the help of an advisory board.
“We will be judging them based on their reach, attainability, efficiency, longevity and depth.” Poole said.
