Google Announces Earth for iPhone and iPod Touch

Google recently announced the launch of its Google Earth application for iPhone and iPod Touch. The application was released through an official Google blog and is regarded as an achievement of the dream of carrying the earth around in one’s pocket. The application offers users easy access to Google Earth wherever they may be.

By incorporating the functionality of the iPhone and the 3D imagery of Google Earth, it gives users the ability to move from one location to the other with the swipe of a finger, tilt the screen to change the view, and tap to zoom in and out. The application has a My Location feature that enables users to use the map. This is a very useful feature and can really help if users get lost in unfamiliar places.

Further, Google has added a new layer to Google Earth. It contains nearly 8 million photos from panaramio, allowing users to see high quality photos of the place on the map. Users can also access geo related articles from Wikipedia. The other important and useful feature of the application is Google Local Search. It allows users to look for places, business and landmarks. It is fairly similar to the Google Maps application.

Google said with Google Earth users can now have access to detailed pages on business or can get reviews, photos, user content, business hours, and other useful information. There is also a Search Near Me option that allows users to find businesses in their proximity without having to see the map. The Google Earth application for the iPhone/ iPod Touch is free and available to download now in 18 languages and 22 countries.
