Google co-founder invests in space tourism
Word has been going round for some time now that Google co-founder Sergey Brin has invested in a space tourism company. Not only this, but, Brin has also reportedly shown interest in making a trip himself within the next three years.
Space Adventures, a US based space tourism company, has already received a $5 million payment from him for the option to book a seat on a future flight to the orbit. Although the investment made by him is going to help ‘Space Adventures’ launch its first private mission, which will be going to the International Space Station, it will also be credited to the cost of future space flight. The estimated cost is expected to be $35 million, maybe more. In such a situation the $5 million credit would only cover a portion of the total cost. Space Adventures gets clients to travel to the International Space Station via the Russian Soyuz flights. A problem has come up in this arrangement. Space Adventures have found a solution; they are planning to buy their own Soyuz by 2011.
34 year-old Brin stated:
I am a big believer in the exploration and commercial development of the space frontier, and am very much looking forward to the possibility of going into space.
