Google Launches Street View in Spain
Google Maps and Google Earth users would now be able to benefit from the Street View Imagery of four major cities of Spain. Google recently added Street View Coverage for Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville. The move came just two weeks after the Search Engine Giant had a similar launch covering six major cities in France.
Google Street View came to Europe to celebrate the 95th anniversary of Le Tour De France. Google users were allowed to ride the 2008 Tour route so that they could feel that they were also a part of the race sitting in their own living rooms. With the launch in Spain now complete, Google users can also have tours to Spanish Landmarks such as La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona or the recently constructed 4 Torres that rule Madrid’s skyline.
The photos of the Street View spiders in Edinburgh were taken in July. There were also people who spotted cars having 360 degree cameras and also GPS receivers in various other locations in the UK. The service has drawn criticism from people who believe that it has the potential to breach privacy and data protection laws. Nevertheless, the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK privacy watchdog gave Google an all clear after investigating its new technology that can blur faces and registration plates.
Official confirmation is awaited for the public release for the Street View Imagery in the UK. It is expected to be done before the end of 2008.
