Intel Montevina-based Centrino 2 platform launch delayed
It was reported a couple of months ago that Intel was well on its way to unveil its Montevina-based Centrino 2 platform this June. The Centrino 2 is expected to bring new Penryn processors that run on a 1066MHz FSB, three new northbridges (with upgraded graphics; GM45, GM47, PM45) as well as new 802.11n/WiMAX wireless controllers.
However, those hoping to upgrade to new laptops will have to hold off beyond June. Intel announced the scheduled launch of Centrino 2 would be delayed at least by a few weeks.
The delay in this major platform launch is not just because of some problem with the chipset or processors. There are some issues with the integrated graphics controller apart from the FCC certification issues with the Shirley Peak 802.11n wireless controllers. Intel spokesman Bill Kircos said the graphics anomaly was noticed during the final testing and claimed a workaround had been identified.
