Knol, Googles answer to Wikipedia now in testing phase
The web is a rich repository of information that Google has made possible to retrieve through its search options. But all information is not written. There are many people who have useful information that they may want to share but are not able to do so as the process is not easy at all. To resolve this challenge, Google invited a selected group to try their new free tool called knol – a unit of knowledge. The main aim of Google is to encourage people to write about topics they are knowledgeable about in a similar way to Wikipedia. The tool is in its developmental stage right now. As of now users can use it only by invitation.
Knol is a well-organized, aesthetically presented web page. Google will provide user friendly tool for writing. The hosting of content will be made free. It will be a rich storehouse of information on all topics under the sun. The authors will have all editorial responsibilities. Google will not take any responsibility. Once Knol is launched, the task for Google is to rank it appropriately whenever it appears on the search page. Google will allow the content of Knol available to all search engines. The main idea is to disseminate knowledge. A Knol page may include ads if the author wishes. Google will share the revenue of the ad with the respective author.
