More internet-connected devices to use Android
The first phone using Google’s Android operating system has been launched. There has already been a lot of buzz built up around it and some unconfirmed stories as well. For instance, some Android partners are claiming that the software will be used more widely than just the mobile phones. The rumour is that more internet-connected devices might use Android.
According to John Bruggeman, the chief marketing officer at Wind River Systems, they are just starting to design Android on devices that go way beyond the phone. Wind River Systems is one of the Google allies that helps phone makers build and customise Android for their phone hardware
Bruggeman did not share specific details about which internet-connected devices might make use of the operating system, but he did make a passing mention of TVs and set-top boxes as well as cars. He also promised that some of them will be available next year itself.
It is not too clear if Google shares this Android ambition. The main emphasis today is basically on the mobile phones market. But if they decide to expand into new areas, then prominence, and therefore the competitive threat, can be increased.
