New norms for downloading music and their implications for you
New norms for downloading music are going to be there. What does the government’s latest announcement mean for you? According to digital music expert Paul Brindley there is no reason to worry.
The managing director of Music Ally, Paul Brindley, spoke to The Guardian regarding the wider implications of the plans to monitor filesharers. He explained:
They basically are the first tentative steps taken towards internet service providers (ISPs) working together with the music and film rights owners to try and come up with ways for dealing with filesharing.
It is important, since it shows a greater willingness, in particular on behalf of the ISPs for developing legal services to downloading music and films. They basically acknowledge some responsibility for their users’ actions.
What the ISPs will do is to issue letters out to those users who are believed to be sharing music illegally. The letters will warn them about the fact that their activity is illegal. If necessary, action will be taken against such users.
