Qik Becomes Part of Blackberry

Qik is the service that is able to turn mobile phones into streaming video cameras. Now it is trying to make mobile streaming video available to the public; irrespective of the handsets that they carry. Earlier, Qik had announced that it had already added support for consumer focussed phones. These included the phones that were generally not a part of the ‘smart phone’ category namely: Nokia and Sony. Now Qik has been able to gain access to the handset that is common among business folk, the Blackberry.

Currently in alpha, the Qik Blackberry application is available for handsets such as the Blackberry Pearl 8120, Blackberry Pearl 8130 & Blackberry bold, running Blackberry Operating System 4.5.

Qik is planning to add support to the Blackberry Curve and Blackberry Flip 8220 in the immediate future. Such a move would make sure that Qik is a part of one of the most popular handsets in the world. But this also means that Qik’s absence from the iPhone is more conspicuous than ever. It is also known that iPhone owners have to forcibly jailbreak their iPhones in order to avail this service.

The other phone that does not have Qik support is the Android phone, G1. But some of the Blackberry users can now test the functionality of Qik themselves.
