Understanding the implications of the Yahoo-Google partnership
The biggest news to come out in the Internet world in the past few days has been of the ‘Non-exclusive’ partnership between internet giants Yahoo! and Google.
A key thing to mull over, while making sense out of this partnership is that it’s ‘Non-exclusive’. Putting the partnership in perspective, Google stated:
Today, we have announced a non-exclusive advertising agreement, which will provide Yahoo! with access to our AdSense for search and AdSense for content advertising programmes on their US and Canadian web properties. In addition, we will work to enabling interoperability between our respective instant messaging services allowing users much better, broader communication online.
In a nutshell, Google Adsense will be used to serve ads to Yahoo!. However, the search engine giant has also been prompt in making it clear that this partnership is not a precursor to merger or a plan to takeover Yahoo!.
Allowing broader communication can lead to numerous possibilities. There can be a partnership in the offing for both their messenger services or for their social networking.
