Yahoo! makes it easier for users to exchange information about themselves
Yahoo! Inc is working towards rewiring the dozens of services across its web site so that users can easily manage all personal information in a single place and also share it with friends across the Web.
Ari Balogh, Chief Technology Officer told over 1,000 attendees at San Francisco’s Web 2.0 Expo conference:
We are not really building another social network. We are building social into everything we do.
The attempt is part of a larger plan for making it easier for users to exchange information about themselves with many other Yahoo! users and on web sites which run applications using various Yahoo! features, looking to help the world’s biggest Internet media firm keep pace with social networks, such as Facebook and MySpace.
Unified user profiles and the attempt to make it easier for Yahoo! users to share information with their friends is part of the firm’s broader ‘Yahoo! Open Strategy’. The plan would provide users simple privacy controls for deciding what data they reveal about themselves. Yahoo! is spelling out this evolving strategy, particularly in the face of Microsoft’s looming, unsolicited takeover offer.
